Myths about Coffee - Myth 1: Dark Roasts Have More Caffeine
We have a secret about coffee to share with you—a common misconception that we hear often! It’s about dark-roast coffee. Can you guess what it is?
❌️ Myth: Dark roasts have more caffeine.
✅️ Truth: Dark-roast coffee does not have more caffeine in it than light and medium roasts!
When we have been asked whether we offer a dark-roast variation of our coffee, it has usually been because the interested party is looking for more caffeine, so we find ourselves dispelling this myth quite frequently.
As Healthline puts it, “Unlike the flavor, aroma, and color of coffee beans, the caffeine content doesn’t concentrate or increase during roasting.”
In fact, the National Coffee Association reveals that “the truth is that light roasts actually have a slightly higher concentration” (although any differences really are almost nonexistent).
Different roasts unlock different aspects of coffee (which gets us so excited and intrigued), but caffeine is not one of them.
What’s the final takeaway? We recommend choosing your roast level just based on how you like it…it will be the taste that changes, not the caffeine content!
